Match and Challenge Gifts

Cutler Scholars Program General Scholarship Endowment

The first $1,000 in gifts on OHIO Giving Day to the Cutler Scholars Program General Scholarship Endowment will be matched 3:1 with a gift from Jack Ellis, Vice President for Advancement Emeritus at Ohio University. Jack has also pledged an additional $2,000 to be unlocked when the fund reaches 50 donors. In addition, gifts of any amount made to the endowment will be matched by Ohio University at 50 cents on the dollar through The OHIO Match.

Ohio University Sustainability Fund

Any gift made on OHIO Giving Day to the Ohio University Sustainability Fund will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $5,000 with a matching gift from Rick Sabol.

Ebony Bobcat Network Urban Scholarship Endowment

In honor of John Newton Templeton, the first African American to graduate from Ohio University in 1828, a $500 gift from Karl Chen will unlock after the EBN Urban Scholarship Endowment reaches 28 donors on Giving Day.

An additional $1,000 challenge gift from Tim Brown will be unlocked after the endowment reaches $1,000 in total gifts on Giving Day.

When the endowment reaches a total of 50 donors on Giving Day, an additional $1,000 challenge gift from Darlene Spencer will be unlocked.

Ohio University Marching 110

Paul and Sarah Schneider will kick off the Marching 110’s Giving Day campaign at 1:10 p.m. with a leading gift of $1,110!

A challenge gift of $2,500 from Jo and Mike Carpenter will unlock after the Marching 110 reaches a total of 110 donors across its three Giving Day funds: the Student Support Fund, Directorship Fund, and Equipment Fund. Jo and Mike (BMUS ’81, MM ’83).

In addition, gifts made to the Student Support Fund and Equipment Fund will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $5,000 each with two gifts from Travis Kidner.

Ohio University Press Young Scholars First Book Fund

$1,000 in support of the Ohio University Press Young Scholars First Book Fund from retired Director Gillian Berchowitz will unlock after the fund reaches $500 on Giving Day.

Student Affairs Food Pantry Support Fund

Once the Student Affairs Food Pantry Support Fund reaches 50 donors on Giving Day, a $1,000 gift from J. Marcus and Ellen Fultz will unlock in support of the fund.

Scripps College of Communication

A challenge gift of $2,500 in support of the Scripps College of Communication General Scholarship Endowment from David Mitchell will unlock when a total of 30 donors has been reached across the four Scripps College Giving Day funds: GRID Lab General Support Fund, Scripps College General Scholarship Endowment, Scripps College Multicultural Enhancement Fund, and the Scripps College Student Development Fund.

College of Fine Arts Community Engagement Fund

When the Community Engagement Fun reaches 25 donors, a $2,500 challenge gift from Dave Scholl will be unlocked!

Wimmer/Patterson Urban Dance Award

A $1,500 gift from Darlene Spencer will unlock after the Wimmer/Patterson Urban Dance Award reaches $500 on Giving Day.

Schey Sales Centre

Two challenge gifts of up to $5,000 each from Bill and Barb Axline and Larry McHale will be used to match two dollars-per-dollar for gifts to the Schey Sales Centre on OHIO Giving Day.

College of Business Emergency Scholarship Program

A challenge gift of up to $10,000 from Bob and Ginny Patrella will be used to match dollar-per-dollar for gifts to the College of Business Emergency Scholarship fund.

Russ College of Engineering and Technology (Any Giving Day fund)

Any gift made to the five Russ College of Engineering and Technology Giving Day funds will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $1,000 with a matching gift from Sharon Harmsworth.

Any gift made to the five Russ College of Engineering and Technology Giving Day funds will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $1,000 with a matching gift from Thomas Ilas, BSIT ’65, MBA ’68.

Dean Dennis Irwin Legacy Russ Vision Scholarship

Any gift made on OHIO Giving Day to the Dean Dennis Irwin Russ Vision Legacy Scholarship fund will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $1,000 with a matching gift from Abbee and Jake Sigal.

Russ College Engineers without Borders

All gifts made to the Russ College Engineers without Borders on Giving Day will be matched 1:1 up to $2,000 with generous gifts from Elizabeth Brown and Cynthia Calhoun.

Russ College Engineering Ambassadors Program

All gifts made to the Engineering Ambassadors Program on Giving Day will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $1,000 with a gift from Blake Andrews.

Friends of the Sugar Bush Foundation

Eli Flournoy and Hylie Voss have pledged a challenge gift of $10,000 in support of the Friends of the Sugar Bush Foundation Fund. $1,000 will unlock for every 10 donors of any amount to the fund, up to 100 donors.

Thomas and Ann Walker Latin American Studies Endowment

Dr. Thomas Walker is an accomplished scholar and writer, internationally renowned for his research on Nicaragua. In continuance of his passion and hospitality, a generous donor has agreed to match gifts on OHIO Giving Day up to $10,000 to the Thomas and Anne Walker Latin American Studies fund. Please join us in celebrating their legacy by supporting the Thomas and Anne Walker LAS fund created in their honor.

Honors Tutorial College General Scholarship Endowment

HTC alumnus John Susany, AB ’83 has generously agreed to match the first $1,000 in gifts to the Honors Tutorial College General Scholarship Endowment. Please help us take full advantage of this by making your gift today and supporting HTC students.

Patton College of Education

A challenge gift of $5,000 from Pat and Jacque Gentile will be realized once The Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education reaches a total of 100 donors across its OHIO Giving Day funds: The Patton College Endowment, The Patton College General Scholarship, The Patton College Emergency Fund, and The Patton College Building Maintenance Fund.

In addition, a challenge gift of $5,000 from Sky Cone will be realized once The Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education reaches a total of 100 donors across its OHIO Giving Day funds: The Patton College Endowment, The Patton College General Scholarship, The Patton College Emergency Fund, and The Patton College Building Maintenance Fund.
