2016 Black Alumni Weekend Benefit/Fundraiser (10:00 PM-2:00 AM)
Location: Buffalo Wild Wings (BW3s)
This event is hosted by Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. One of the mandated programs of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc is Scholarship. The Scholarship Program is intended to promote academic excellence among the undergraduate members and financial assistance to student members and non-members. A portion of the fraternity's international budget is allocated to scholarships through the Charles R. Drew Scholarship Commission. Through this program Omega Psi Phi is planning to conduct a fundraising campaign that will benefit the Urban and Appalachian Scholars Program. The Urban and Appalachian Scholars were created to provide academically qualified students with the financial resources and the support system they need to seize their opportunity. Increasing costs coupled with decreasing state support mean more of the financial burden of higher education is placed on students.  The State of Ohio’s average in-state tuition cost has increased by 13.4 percent on university main campuses over the past five years.

This initiative will allow patrons to contribute financially towards the Urban and Appalachian Scholars Program and to support education for qualified OU students and students that are being recruited to attend OU. The event is scheduled for September 16 and will begin at 10 p.m. and end at 2 a.m. (with a D.J. in place). There will be no cover charge but patrons will be asked to make a contribution towards the Urban and Appalachian Scholars Program. We propose that Buffalo Wild Wings will assist with this benefit/fundraiser by providing the venue for this event. It is the understanding that all proceeds from the bar will be BW3s but donations collected at the door will go towards The Urban and Appalachian Scholars program and the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc scholarship program. BW3s will be promoted in the electronic/online schedule of events and on printed materials made available for OU Black Alums. For more information, please contact Tyrone Carr at carrt@ohio.edu.
