Alumni in the Coral Springs area are invited to attend Dinner with 12 Bobcats!
Dinner with 12 Bobcats is exactly what is sounds like! An alumnus will host a dinner with 11 fellow Bobcats to share a meal, conversation and a good time. The date, February 17th, is the day before Ohio University’s Founder’s Day (February 18th) and what better way to celebrate than dinner with fellow Bobcats!
Your dinner host is Larry Starr. Starr began his athletic training career as an Assistant Athletic Trainer/Instructor at Ohio University from 1968-1971. He earned a Master of Science Degree in Education and a Bachelor of Science Degree in education from Ohio University. Starr was the Head Athletic Trainer for the Cincinnati Reds for 21 years from 1972-1992. His knowledge and expertise were paramount in helping the "Big Red Machine" win back-to-back World Series Championships in 1975 & 1976. Under Starr's athletic training direction, the Reds also won the 1990 World Championship by sweeping the Oakland Athletics in four straight games. Larry then spent nine years as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Florida Marlins baseball club. He was instrumental in preparing, monitoring and managing the fitness progress and overall well-being of the Marlins players. Starr's efforts contributed greatly to the immediate success of the expansion franchise, which captured the 1997 World Series Championship in just their fifth MLB season. Starr was named Assistant Athletic Director/Sports Medicine at Nova Southeastern (NSU) in August 2002. While at NSU, Starr established the NSU Sports Medicine Interdisciplinary Team that gives quality healthcare to the 350 student-athletes at the NCAA Division II Institution. He is presently President of Starr Athletic Solutions, LLC, a injury prevention/rehabilitation and fitness consulting firm, while completing a doctorate in educational leadership with a healthcare concentration. Starr’s honors include induction into the OATA Hall of Fame, ATAF Hall of Fame, Carrollton H.S. HOF, Tennis Fantasy with the Legends HOF, NATA HOF, NSU Sports HOF and OU Medal of Merit Award for his contributions to the athletic training profession. Starr is presently the NFL Injury Spotter for Sun Life Stadium games.
