The best part of all of this is that 100% of the proceeds from Superhero Fest support the mission of the Athens CASA/GAL Program. Athens CASA recruits and trains community volunteers to support children that have been the victims of abuse and neglect as they navigate the juvenile court and child protection systems. A CASA Volunteer is first and foremost an advocate for the child's best interests, but often becomes a friendly, comforting face in a time of turmoil. A CASA Volunteer gives the child a Voice.

Built following the Kirkbride Model in the 1860s the asylum was a regional mental health hospital operated by the state of Ohio. The State of Ohio gave the ridges property to Ohio University in the late 80’s/early 90’s. Since that time Ohio University has renovated several facilities for University use. Examples include repurposing a horse barn to a Child Development Center, the main administration building to the Kennedy Museum of Art, and cottages to the Voinovich School of Public Affairs.
